The management of the University of Ibadan has disclosed that it cleared 4,215 new students out of 22,000 candidates who sought admission to the institution.

The institution noted that these students were admitted and have been cleared to pursue various academic degrees at the university.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Kayode Adebowale, made these statements while addressing the newly admitted students.

Adebowale, speaking at the matriculation ceremony held on Wednesday, charged the new students to embrace discipline and prioritize excellence.

The Vice Chancellor, while addressing the gathering, noted that matriculation was not a mere ceremony but a rite of passage that symbolizes formal admission into the university.

He disclosed that out of the 22,000 candidates who applied to study at the university, 4,650 were offered provisional admission, while only 4,215 were cleared.

Adebowale further emphasized that the transition from secondary school comes with implications and urged the students to adopt independent learning habits rather than being ‘spoon-fed' like they were in secondary school.

He then warned that as undergraduate students of the institution, the students would be expected to meet high levels of expectation from society.

The matriculation lecturer, Dr. Olukayode Abiola Aiyenuyo, told the matriculated students that after spending years at the premier University of Ibadan, he emerged better equipped to face life head-on.

He used the opportunity to reiterate that a chapter had closed, and a new chapter had begun in their lives.

He appealed to the new students to also seek God for a true path in life in order to achieve success.
