US ceasefire deal: This wasn’t part of the agenda – Zelenskyy rejects Russia’s demands

Published on March 26, 2025 at 09:54 AM

Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy has insisted that some of the demands or conditions tabled by Russia during the negotiations for ceasefire off the Black Sea were not part of the meeting agenda.

Recall that the US announced on Tuesday that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to “eliminate the use of force”; in the Black Sea after parallel talks in Saudi Arabia.

However, Russia has insisted that a maritime ceasefire would start only if it received sanctions relief on agricultural exports.

Russia's specific documents noted that the US would help “restore Russia’s access to the world market for agricultural and fertiliser exports, lower maritime insurance costs, and enhance access to ports and payment systems for such transactions.”;

Zelenskyy said that the Russian demand was not part of the agenda.

“This wasn’t in the agenda before the meeting,”; Zelenskyy said on Tuesday.

“The Russians, as far as we know, have raised the issue of the American assistance to transport their agricultural products ... We didn’t agree to that so that it would be in our common [statement],”; he added.

However, the Ukrainian leader sought to sound upbeat during his remarks, and said that at least now Kyiv could appeal to the White House if Russia chose to violate the ceasefire against Ukraine in the coming month.
