US: Judge dismisses criminal case against New York Mayor Eric Adams

Published on April 02, 2025 at 03:24 PM

A judge on Wednesday dismissed the federal criminal case against New York City Mayor Eric Adams.

This comes nearly two months after US President Donald Trump's administration controversially sought to drop corruption charges against Adams.

District Court Judge Dale Ho tossed out the case “with prejudice”;;, which permanently bars the Department of Justice, DOJ, from resurrecting the five-count indictment against the Democrat in US District Court in Manhattan.

The DOJ had asked Ho to toss the case “without prejudice”, which would have allowed charges to be refiled against Adams in the future.

The department argued the case should be dismissed because prosecuting the mayor would have interfered with his ability to govern the city, as well as his ability to cooperate with President Trump’s immigration enforcement policies.

Seven federal prosecutors, including the acting Manhattan US attorney, quit in protest over the DOJ’s demand that they file the dismissal request.
