US President Donald Trump has said “controlling and owning Gaza would be a good thing”;.
Reuters reports that he made the statement during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu at the White House on Monday.
Trump once again suggested that Palestinians from Gaza could be moved to different countries.
This reiterates his earlier plans to forcibly displace the population from Gaza to neighbouring countries, in order to “own”; and “redevelop”; Gaza under US control.
“I don’t understand why Israel ever gave up Gaza,”; Trump said.
Netanyahu also confirmed he and Trump discussed his “bold vision” for the future of Gaza – a reference to a proposal for America to take over the enclave.
Trump's plan, which he first spoke about during his initial weeks in office, has been globally condemned as a proposal for ethnic cleansing.
