Users report CRA tax-filing portal down day before deadline

Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) says that it is “experiencing issues” with its website as users reported Thursday that they could not access the portal to file taxes the day before the deadline to submit.

Candace Nancke, a partner at accounting firm Loren Nancke, said Thursday her firm has not been able to access CRA’s Represent a Client service, which allows authorized representatives online access to individuals and businesses’ tax information.

She said that accountants across the country are reporting the same issue, and a number of Twitter users are reporting the service to be inaccessible as well.

“A lot of accountants are not happy,” she said. “Many taxpayers and accountants are reporting having to spend hours on the phone in a queue to speak to CRA.”

Nancke said it has been down since this afternoon.

The deadline for most Canadians to file their tax returns is April 30, but CRA has not announced a deadline extension.

Global News has contacted CRA but has yet to receive a response.
