VC decries encrochment on BSU land

Published on March 22, 2025 at 07:26 AM

Vice-Chancellor of Benue State University, BSU, Makurdi, Prof Tor Iorapuu, has bemoaned tbe unauthorized encrochment on the institution's land by the Mission House International Church.

He disclosed this on Friday during a tour of the affected site near River Benue in Makurdi.

Iorapuu alleged that such encroachment had persisted for years as efforts by his predecessors to halt the practice proved abortive.

He stated that despite the intervention by relevant government agencies like the Benue State Urban Development Board, BSUDB, the encrochment on the university's land had continued.

He explained that the proprietors of Mission House International had distorted the original entry point to their land through Duku Park, Wurukum and created illegal access route on the university’s land.

He vowed to resist further encroachment on the land secured for the establishment of the institution by late Governor, Revd Fr Moses Adasu.

“The university management is capable of defending its cause without dragging the governor into this matter,” he said.

Reacting, the General Manager of BSUDB,Ter Mede, said Mission House International had no approval to errect structures on the land.

He disclosed that 202 hectares were officially allocated to the university, while 1.7 hectares were approved for the church..

Mede pledged to take up the matter with Gov Alia as Mission House International was encroaching on the university's land.
