We will not produce half-baked graduates – Rector, Fed Poly, Bauchi

The Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, Sani Usman, has reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, stating that the polytechnic cannot afford to produce half-baked graduates.

He made this known on Saturday during the 2024/2025 matriculation ceremony held for newly admitted students.

According to the Rector, the institution maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards examination malpractice and places great value on the integrity of its certificates.

“We cannot afford to churn out half-baked graduates into society after spending years building a solid reputation for this polytechnic,”; he said.

“For every form of examination misconduct, there is a corresponding penalty. I urge you all to steer clear of any action or inaction that could amount to academic dishonesty.”;

Usman further revealed that the Polytechnic is one of the first tertiary institutions in Nigeria to introduce auditing of examination scripts — a measure he said demonstrates the institution's commitment to upholding its standards while also considering students’ concerns.

“In addition, to align with global best practices, we have installed CCTV cameras in most examination halls to promote academic integrity and prevent malpractice,”; he added. “This underscores our resolve to maintain the highest ethical standards in our assessments.”;

The Rector also tasked members of the school management with the responsibility of nurturing students and equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and values needed to succeed and contribute meaningfully to society.

Providing a breakdown of admission statistics, Usman disclosed that the institution received 6,928 applications for the 2024/2025 academic session across its National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes.

Out of this number, 6,266 students were admitted, with 5,068 successfully registering—3,151 for ND and 1,917 for HND.

Also speaking at the event, the institution’s Registrar, Kasimu Salihu, congratulated the new students while emphasizing the importance of discipline and proper conduct.

“We place a premium on discipline and decorum. Indecent dressing is not tolerated on campus, and any violation of this rule will attract sanctions, he warned.

“All students are expected to adhere strictly to the dress code to maintain a conducive learning environment.”
