Rodwell scored his first Premier League goal in February 2010 against Manchester United, an impressive solo run sealing a 3-1 for the Toffees.
He made his debut for England in a 1-0 win against Spain in 2011, and earned a total of three caps for the national team.
Rodwell signed for Manchester City in 2012 for an initial fee of £12million.
Despite his potential, he found opportunities limited, appearing only 25 times and scoring twice for the club.
He did however make five appearance in the 2013/14 Premier League season for City, earning him a Premier League winners medal.
Rodwell joined Sunderland in 2014 for an undisclosed fee, and criticised his former club, saying young English players should think twice before joining them.
He played far more regular first team football at the Wearside club, but was unable to save them from relegation to the Championship in 2017.
Rodwell was criticised by fans of the club for not taking a pay cut after dropping down a division, and found first team football hard to come by in the following months.
He was released from his contract in June 2018 after Sunderland were relegated for a second consecutive season, and joined Blackburn on a one-year deal.
Rodwell played 22 times for the Lancashire club, but rejected a new contract and left in 2019.
