White House confirms China’s new tariffs equal 104%

Published on April 07, 2025 at 06:41 PM

The White House has stated that China's new tariffs amount to 104 per cent, according to NBC.

With Donald Trump's latest threat of 50 per cent duties on imports from China, the total new tariffs imposed on goods imported into the United States from China could reach as high as 104 per cent.

This total includes the 50 per cent , plus two rounds of 10 per cent tariffs Trump had already imposed in response to China's alleged failure to curb the flow of fentanyl.

It also encompasses the 10 per cent all-nations baseline tariff that took effect on Saturday, and the 34 per cent tit-for-tat tariff set to be implemented on Wednesday.

The 104 per cent tariff does not account for pre-existing tariffs on certain items that Trump imposed during his first term, which the Biden administration has largely maintained, nor the 25 per cent tariff Trump seeks to impose on nations trading with Venezuela.

The escalating tensions between the US and China have heightened fears of a global trade war.

The tariffs would represent a significant blow to China's manufacturers, for whom the US is a crucial market for exports.
