Why I benched Raphinha – Barcelona coach, Flick

Published on April 06, 2025 at 06:05 AM

Barcelona manager, Hansi Flick has explained why he benched winger, Raphinha during his side's LaLiga 1-1 draw against Real Betis on Saturday.

Recall that Flick opted to start Ferran Torres ahead of Raphinha as Barcelona drew against Real Betis at the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium.

Gavi gave Barcelona the lead early in the game before Real Betis restored parity in the 17th minute, thanks to Natan's goal.

Flick then decided to brought in Raphinha in the 57 minute of the encounter but the Brazil international was unable to score a goal for the hosts.

Explaining his decision why he benched Raphinha, Flick said at his post-match interview: “No injury... He's played several matches for his country, and we want to be careful with him”;.

Raphinha has scored 24 goals and registered 13 assists in all competitions for Barcelona so far this season.

He will hope to lead Flick's side to victory when they face Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday.
