The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has commended the quality and pace of ongoing infrastructural projects across the territory.
Wike made the remarks on Monday during an inspection tour of several key construction sites in Abuja.
Among the projects visited were the renovation of the Abuja International Conference Centre (AICC), the extension of Obafemi Awolowo Way (N5) from Life Camp Junction to Ring Road III, the road network in Gishiri village, Katampe District, and the N16 Interchange at NICON Junction, which connects Maitama and Katampe Districts to Wole Soyinka Way.
“Frankly speaking, we are very impressed with what we have seen. The quality of work is commendable, and the projects are progressing on schedule,”; Wike said.
“The contractors are delivering as expected, and the government is fulfilling its obligation by ensuring timely payments to avoid delays.”;
The minister expressed particular satisfaction with the progress at the Abuja International Conference Centre, noting that it is nearing completion and would soon be ready for use.
“Anyone familiar with the previous state of the centre will be amazed by the transformation taking place,”; he stated.
Wike further revealed that the N16 Interchange is slated for completion and inauguration by President Bola Tinubu in May, to mark his second year in office. He added that the N5 extension project is also expected to be completed by the end of May.
He emphasized that the projects are being funded through the 2024 FCT budget, which remains in effect until the end of June. According to him, the 2025 FCT Statutory Budget has already been submitted to the National Assembly, and its defense will commence once the legislature resumes from recess.
Highlighting the impressive implementation of the 2024 budget, Wike stated that about 95 per cent of the capital projects have been executedâan unprecedented achievement in the FCT’s project delivery history.
“There is no project captured in the 2024 budget that has not been addressed,”; the minister affirmed.
