The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, was on Sunday seen in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, engaging in a ping pong match.

Wike was spotted playing table tennis at the residence of Senator Barry Mpigi.

This comes amid renewed claims on social media alleging that Wike is either sick or dead.

A social media handle, Biafra Reggae Music, had claimed that “Wike is dead.”

Lately, there have been several speculations surrounding Wike's health.

Several posts on social media had alleged that Wike collapsed last week and was flown to France for treatment.

However, , stressing that they were the handiwork of baseless politicians.

The minister had earlier dismissed the reports, noting that he is healthier than most of those wishing him dead.

Meanwhile, a Facebook post by Wike's media aide, Lere Olayinka, reads: “FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, entered Port Harcourt this evening and went straight to the residence of Senator Barry Mpigi. Na there he go play Table Tennis. Make you wey never do medical tests in the last ten years dey there dey do social media adviser on health to other people.”

The death rumours gained traction after President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State and suspended Governor Sim Fubara for six months.

The president also appointed a sole administrator to preside over the affairs of the state.

The state of emergency was declared over threats by militants to attack oil installations in the state following the face-off between Wike and Fubara.

The crisis between the duo had caused a major shakeup within the Rivers State House of Assembly, as 27 lawmakers were suspended for allegedly defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

However, during court proceedings, it was revealed that the 27 lawmakers never defected.

The Supreme Court recently ordered their reinstatement under the leadership of Wike-backed Martins Amaewhule.

Upon their resumption of duty, Fubara attempted to resubmit the 2025 budget but was prevented by the assembly as the gate of the complex was locked against him.
