A WOMAN has sparked outrage after showing off the eye-catching gown she's planning to wear to her best friend's wedding.

And not only is Kelly a guest at the nuptials – she's also her pal's maid of honour.

People were quick to warn her that she'd “outshine the bride” if she wore the dress

She took to TikTok to post a look at the dress she'd ordered for the big day, as she shared her “dilemma” regarding the outfit, which she'd snapped up when it came back in stock on the ASOS website.

Posing in the mirror, Kelly showed off the pale yellow dress, which was covered in sequins of differing sizes – creating a head-turning effect.

“I thought I wanted it for my best friend's wedding, which I'm the maid of honour in, in May,” she said.

Kelly added that while she's aware some people might think her “crazy” for the outfit choice, the theme for the bridesmaids' dresses is “fun, colourful and unique”.

“But I still think it's too much,” she mused.

“And if it is too much, do I keep the dress and hope I can wear it in the future?”

Not only does the dress turn head with its appearance, but it has a sound to match, which Kelly demonstrated as she swished round her room.

“I need you to tell me if it's too much,” she insisted.

And people didn't hold back in the comments section as they did just that.

“Do not wear that to someone else’s wedding unless they are an enemy,” one warned.

“It’s too much for your friends wedding only because it will outshine and it’s her day,” another insisted.

“Don’t wear to the wedding because you’ll outshine the bride!” a third agreed.

“I feel like it would be too attention grabbing standing next to a bride at a wedding,” someone else said.

“It’s main character energy. Save it for your event or new year's,” another suggested.

“Not a Maid of Honour dress,” someone else said.

However, others were more on the fence, and said Kelly could get away with wearing the dress to the wedding.

Wedding Guest Outfit Etiquette

If you're struggling to decided on a dress to see you through wedding season, here's a few rules on what not to wear so you don't get in trouble.

  • Folklore says that wearing red at a wedding means you slept with the groom.
  • Casual attire like jeans and flip flops should always be avoided.
  • Any colour that could be picked up as white or cream – even if it's not.
  • Most would agree that your cleavage needs to be covered.
  • Wearing white is a massive no-no if you're not the bride.

“Wear it!!!” one wrote.

“It looks yellow to me, not bridal.

“I love it and would love if my bestie went all out!”

As another added: “Ask your friend and if the colour is okay WEAR THE DRESS. Make it fun!”
