A MUM has revealed she suffered an out-of-body experience after dying for 24 minutes while on the school.
Tessa Romero says her short-lived brush with death convinced her to no longer be afraid of dying due to what she went through.
Tessa Romero, 50, was dead for 24 minutes but says the experience has changed her lifeThe mum's heart suddenly stopped working as she took her daughters to schoolTessa even remembers how at one point she felt as if she was floating around the room and actually looking down at her body
The 50-year-old was dropping her daughters off at school when she suddenly had a “distinct”; feeling that she was on the verge of death.
Her heart stopped beating all at once and for an agonising 24 minutes she was officially dead.
Doctors miraculously managed to bring her back to life with the journalist and sociologist now recalling what those minutes truly felt like.
She said: “The first thing I felt was immense peace, for the first time in a long time, there was no more physical or emotional pain â the suffering was over.
“I felt profoundly relieved, as if a huge weight had been lifted from me.”
Tessa even remembers how at one point she felt as if she was floating around the room and actually looking down at her body.
One of the most confusing parts of the whole ordeal was how Tessa felt completely in control of her new form – even saying she was “alive, awake and conscious”.
But no doctors could hear her or appeared to be able to see the floating soul.
She continued: “I didn't believe in these kinds of phenomena [before] â but when I woke up, I knew with absolute certainty that what I had experienced hadn't been a dream.
“It was real. Everything around me felt different.
I died and came back to life, 'heaven' was incredible I can't wait to go back
“I had a very strange feeling, as if the world had been put through an antique filter. It was as if time no longer worked the same way.”
She added that everything felt “slower, denser, more charged with meaning”;.
Tessa, who lives in Málaga, Spain, was unwell for several months before her short-lived death.
She says that despite running various tests, doctors were never able to uncover what was wrong with her.
Tessa said: “My body was failing, and they couldn't find a concrete cause.
“It was a very distressing time because I felt worse and worse â and no one could explain why.”
The experience has now even changed Tessa’s whole perspective on life as well as her perception of death.
She used to have a deep fear of death which was fuelled by a feeling of darkness, uncertainty, and pain when you pass on.
Death is now viewed as a transition to Tessa rather than a complete end of life.
“It's like crossing a door into a place where everything makes sense, where love and peace envelope everything,” the mum said.
“I’m no longer afraid of it and every moment has become precious.”
What are out-of-body experiences?
OUT-OF-BODY experiences often refer to unique phenomenons in which a person sees themselves as existing or functioning outside of their physical body.
During the brief encounter, a person can feel as though their consciousness has detached from their physical form.
Those who have felt the bizarre experience recall feeling like they are observing the world from above their prone body.
They can occur spontaneously, during sleep or even during near-death experiences or death itself.
They are often associated with altered states of consciousness and can sometimes be compared to lucid dreaming or sleep paralysis.
Scientists are yet to determine what exactly causes out-of-body experiences and if they can be controlled or shaped at all.
Experiences can often vary between individuals by a huge amount with individual interpretations usually shaped by cultural, philosophical, or religious beliefs.
He said when he died there was no light to go towards, bit did explain: “I wasn't looking down at my body, but I was separate from my body.
“It was like I was in the spirit realm – I was conscious of what was going on but I had so much peace.”
Jessie Sawyer and Betty Eadie both also “died” on the operating table while having surgery and were brought back to life.
The pair shared their experiences of the afterlife, with one even saying that she was looking forward to going back.
Betty, 78, explained that she had seen Jesus, God and angels when she died.
Whereas Jessie described it by saying she saw a friend who had passed away two years ago.
