Woman reveals her genius hack to get petrol FOR FREE as well as a snack next time you need to fill up

Published on March 21, 2025 at 10:34 AM

With the cost of petrol continuing to tighten its grip on our purse strings, Brits are trying to make their fuel stretch as far as possible.

And many of us know all too well how costly some of the snacks can be when stopping off for a drink while paying for petrol.

There is a simple trick to get £10 worth of petrol for free

However, one woman has discovered a genius hack to get petrol for free – and she claims you can even grab a snack when you fill up.

Lucy, who is known as @lucyandlittle on TikTok, shared a video revealing her simple trick.

She captioned it: “I mean, who doesn’t want free petrol, a drink or snack, and a few quid on top?”;

Speaking to the camera, she said: “You can get a tenner's worth of free petrol, and you can spend two quid at the shop as well.”;

Lucy explained that this is possible in various locations, such as Chesterfield and Sheffield.

She revealed that signing up to a Mystery Shopping guide is the best way to do it.

A mystery shopper is a person employed to visit a shop or restaurant incognito in order to assess the quality of goods or services.

And Lucy isn’t the only person to have tried this.

According toDown the Lane, a website focused on ways to earn extra money, one shopper shared their experience after signing up.

They were paid a petrol allowance for travelling to the station and were then allowed to fill up their car with £10 worth of fuel.

All they had to do was stay at the petrol station for around 15 minutes and count the number of cars that came in during that time.

To sign up to become a mystery shopper, simply head to the Mystery Shopper website.

Since sharing her video, Lucy has gained over 1,000 likes with 64 people rushing to the comments section to share their thoughts.

One asked: “Lucy if you sign up are you guaranteed to get picked to do it?

“I also don’t drive and only do public transport so would it be worth me signing up to ones? Obvs not the petrol one haha.”

Lucy has tested it out herself as well as many other money savers

To which Lucy replied: “Some you get straight away. Some you need approval first.

“There’s 16 websites and loads of different opportunities so it depends what you bid on.”

Others simply asked if there were options in their local area like Cambridgeshire, Manchester, and north Wales to which Lucy said to check out the guide to.

We previously revealed how money-saving expert Holly Smith has shared how a savvy side hustle could help you earn freebies like hotel stays, petrol, and groceries simply by becoming a mystery shopper.

Her tasks can include filling up on petrol, shopping at Aldi, or dining out, with costs covered and sometimes additional pay.

Websites such as Mystery Shoppers Ltd and Market Force offer opportunities, though Holly advises caution to avoid scams.

Always research companies thoroughly and steer clear of any that require upfront fees.

How to cut the price of petrol and diesel

HERE's how to save yourself money and fuel

  1. Make your car more fuel-efficient. Keep your tyres inflated, remove the roof rack and turn your air-con. This will reduce your engine power and the amount of fuel you're using.

2. Drive slow and steady. The brake is a money burner, so avoid slamming it on. Accelerating slowly will also save you fuel and money.

3. Be a bargain hunter. Find the cheapest petrol or diesel in your area. PetrolPrices.com and Confused.com are free to use – just enter your postcode and how far you want to travel.
