I’m a working mum of three and pregnant with another – I get £3k on benefits but it’s gone within a day

A MUM has revealed how £3,000 in benefits lasts her just a day.

Millie, a working mum-of-three with another on the way, took to social media to share her finances.

Pregnant mother of three holding £40, stating it's all she has for three weeks.

A woman in a pink sweatshirt says her £3,000 universal credit payment is already gone.
The mum of three says childcare takes most of her money

She said; “I got paid £3,000 from Universal Credit today and it is all gone.

“I've paid the most important bills and I'll just have to wait until I get my wages to pay for the rest of them, which isn't a problem.

“But I've been left with £2 even though I had that three grand in the bank this morning.”

Despite working, Millie was still struggling to make ends meet with the astronomical cost of childcare.

“My nursery fees are absolutely through the roof. So most of my UC did actually go on that,” she explained.

In the comments, she revealed her nursery costs were £1,700 for the month and the rest of her benefits were used to pay rent.

The mum works and is also able to make some extra cash from TikTok using the creator fund.

TikTok bosses say: “The funds that each creator can earn are worked out by a combination of factors – including the number of views and the authenticity of those views, the level of engagement on the content, as well as making sure content is in line with our Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.

No two creators or videos are the same, and there is no limit to the different kinds of content we will support with the fund.

“The Creator Fund total varies daily and is dependent on the number of videos published by our community that day – so this will fluctuate based on the amount of content being published.”

Finishing the video, Millie said: “Life is rough. It is so bad at the minute.”

The clip posted to her TikTok account @millie.2103 went viral with over 147k views and 2,900 likes.

Many parents commented in support of Millie, with many agreeing that childcare was far too expensive.

The UK is one of the most expensive countries in the world for childcare – amounting to 19 per cent of average income, according to OECD estimates in 2022.

One person wrote: “No hate, but surely it's not even worth working if you're left with barely anything once you've paid for nursery etc.”

Another commented: “Isn't it mad they ‘force' mums out to work then pay more in childcare than if we were at home with them ourselves.”

“The working mum life is harddd! We pay nursery fees + free hours cause the free hours just don’t cover the time we need,” penned a third.

Meanwhile a fourth said: “Ridiculous how much nursery fees are.”

“Good on you for going out and working,”; claimed a fifth.

Someone else added: “That’s an insane amount for childcare.”
