World Cup: Alan Shearer names Belgium player badly hurt

Published on December 02, 2022 at 01:37 AM

Premier League legend Alan Shearer has defended Romelu Lukaku, insisting that the Chelsea striker’s lack of fitness contributed to Belgium’s early exit from the World Cup in Qatar.

He also insisted that the rest of the squad are culpable for their crashing out in the group stage of the World Cup.

‘It’s not down to him [Belgium’s elimination],”; Shearer told BBC.

Belgium said goodbye to the beautiful streets of Qatar on Thursday after a goalless draw with Croatia.

Morocco tops the Group F of the World Cup with 7 points 2 more than Croatia in second place.

Lukaku missed a couple of chances to put Belgium in the lead and has been widely blamed for their crashing out.

“They will look at themselves and blame themselves. They didn’t do enough and they didn’t deserve to go through.

‘They tried, they created a few chances in the second-half but it was too little too late.

“It will hurt him [Lukaku].
