World Cup: Benzema to return to France squad

Published on November 29, 2022 at 01:17 PM

Karim Benzema could make a surprising return to the France squad at the 2022 World Cup.

The 34-year-old had initially been ruled out through injury.

Benzema was expected to miss the entire tournament with a thigh problem.

France head coach, Didier Deschamps, opted not to call up a replacement and has continued with Kylian Mbappe, Olivier Giroud, Ousmane Dembele, Antoine Griezmann, Kingsley Coman and Marcus Thuram.

However, RMC Sport claims that Benzema could still return to the France setup as he returns to full training this week at Real Madrid.

Benzema could be fit enough to take part in the knockout stages of the World Cup.

FIFA rules permit players to return to their squads if they recover from injury if they had initially been named in the tournament squad before being ruled out.
