World Cup’s most iconic haircuts from Ronaldo’s famous trim to Valderrama’s curls recreated at The Sun’s own barbers

WORLD CUP fever has officially gripped the nation.

England’s 6-2 romp against Iran in their Group B opener on Monday has footy fans up and down the country dreaming of the Jules Rimet Trophy “Coming Home.”;

And some have gotten into the mood by adopting World Cup haircuts of yesteryear – and a couple of recent hairdos made popular by England stars.

The Sun took over the London Beard Company, in the shadows of Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, on Wednesday to give footy-mad fans the chance to look like their heroes.

The Sun Salon provided loyal readers with the opportunity to choose one of ten famous footy barnets to have for the remainder of Qatar 2022.

Risky readers were given the chance to spin the wheel of retro cuts to decide which hairdo they’d be treated to.

Readers queued up as early as 7:45am to get their throwback World Cup trim.

Phil Foden’s silver-haired tribute to Gazza was the first haircut of the day, with 21-year-old Xavier from east London repping the Manchester City winger’s Euro 2020 look.

After being trimmed by barber Oliver Moorhouse, he told SunSport: “When I first saw it on him, I thought, ‘He’s looking kinda fresh.’ It was a bit of me, for sure.

“I’m excited [now I’ve had the cut]. It’s just got me more excited for the game on Friday.

“And me and the boys, we’re going to go out, watch the game and have a bit of fun.”;

Cristiano Ronaldo’s side parting proved to be one of the most popular trims early doors, with two loyal readers keen to get the CR7 look.

Long before Ronaldo’s haircut became the desired look for millions, his Brazilian namesake stunned footy fans with an audacious trim at the 2002 World Cup.

And 29-year-old Connor, who was hours away from jetting off to Thailand on holiday, bravely sported the former Samba star’s dodgy do – which was given to him by barber Brandon Quinney.

He said: “I’m a big fan of Brazil and a big fan of Ronaldo. I think he’s the greatest striker of all time and is massively underrated.

“[It’s bold], but I’m going to start a new trend and everyone is going to be rocking the Ronaldo from now onwards.”;

After getting the R9 cut from Oliver Elvin, he added: “I’ve had better days, but I feel good and ready for the World Cup – more in tune with it.”;

Colombia great Carlos Valderamma arguably has the most memorable haircut in World Cup history – with his long and flowing locks living long in the memory.

Valderrama’s naturally long and incredibly curly blonde hair – which many thought was a perm – flowed through the air as he tried to unlock defences in the 1990, 1994 and 1998 World Cups.

And it was brought back to life by 24-year-old Jurgen from north London, who dyed his own impressive locks blonde with a tinge of yellow.

He said: “Recently, I died my beard blonde and I shaved it all off. And I figure, ‘Time for the hair as well.'”;

Sir Bobby Charlton’s iconic combover also made an appearance – with 21-year-old Xavier deciding to sport the former England skipper’s look after scores of our readers decided his fate on an Instagram poll.

But he somewhat regretted leaving the decision in the hands of fellow readers after seeing his combover.

After barber Brandon Blake showed him the finished article, he shouted with a smile on his face: “England better win the World Cup now!”;

These days, it’s the haircut donned by England midfielder – and Gucci model – Jack Grealish that’s all the rage among the youngsters.

And Grzegorz was all too keen to get the Grealish look ahead of England’s clash with the USA on Friday.

Grealish may be the current poster boy of England, but former skipper David Beckham is still considered by many to be the face of English football.

And late in the day, Beck’s 2002 mohawk – which rubbed up Sir Alex Ferguson the wrong way – was revived by one of our readers.

One patriotic England fan decided to go the whole nine yards and get St George’s Cross emblazoned across his head.

After skipping into the shop singing the national anthem, Three Lions fan Relu plonked himself onto the chair to have the flag plastered on his head.

And he was chuffed to bits with the end result, putting his thumbs up and saying: “Definitely I support England and I’m supporting Harry Maguire.

“I’m very, very happy [with my haircut] and thank you for the support.”;

Arturo Vidal’s mohawk also made an appearance, as well as a trim in honour of England hitman Marcus Rashford.

London Beard Company owner Ash said: “It’s been really good [doing this].

“The World Cup is starting and I think everyone is feeling the vibe. England won the other day, so let’s [all] get into it.”;
