World Cup: I’m sad – Ayew criticizes Ghana after elimination from tournament

Published on December 04, 2022 at 01:04 AM

Ghana captain, Andre Ayew, has criticized his side for not getting it right against Uruguay during both teams’ FIFA World Cup group stage tie on Friday.

Away also lamented his missed penalty kick against Uruguay during the Black Stars’ decisive last Group H game of the FIFA World Cup.

Ghana lost 2-0 against Uruguay at the Al Janoub Stadium, but both nations failed to advance to the round of 16 of the tournament.

Ayew missed a penalty kick in the first half of the encounter as Giorgian de Arrascaeta’s brace gave Uruguay the victory.

“We had the opportunity to get to the next stage, I missed the penalty,”; Ayew told the media in a post-match interview as quoted by Ghana Football Association.

“It’s difficult to take, we did not get it right. I am very optimistic about the future. I am sad, but we will try and make it better.”;
