World Cup: It wasn’t good – De Bruyne explains burst up with teammate in 1-0 win

Published on November 24, 2022 at 11:47 AM

Manchester City midfielder, Kevin De Bruyne has given reason for his burst up with teammate, Toby Alderweireld during Belgium’s undeserved 1-0 win over Canada on Wednesday.

He said it was over Belgium’s very poor style of play during their Qatar 2022 World Cup opener.

Former Chelsea man, Michy Batshuayi scored the only goal for European giants in the first half, while goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois saved from the penalty spot to deny Canada.

Canada were the superior team for the night but were let down by their finishing and De Bruyne admitted he was not happy with his side’s tendency to favour the long ball.

“It was not good,”; De Bruyne told Sporza

“I thought we had the wrong way of building up in the first half, we didn’t find the space while the space was there.

“That was also what my discussion with Alderweireld was about.

“Anyway, some discussion about the way of playing is no problem. We do know what needs to change.”;
