World Cup: Neville slams Southgate for snubbing England’s best player in Qatar

Published on November 26, 2022 at 11:23 AM

Manchester United legend, Gary Neville has lambasted England manager Gareth Southgate for snubbing Manchester City’s Phil Foden during their draw against the USA on Friday.

Neville believes strongly that Southgate Foden should have started, being England’s ‘best player’ at the World Cup.

Manchester City’s Phil Foden was an unused substitute in the Three Lions’ goalless draw with the USA.

Neville was baffled by the 22-year-old’s lack of minutes as England produced a sluggish performance at the Al Bayt Stadium

Neville lamented Foden’s absence and claimed the Manchester City forward was the ‘best player’ and ‘best talent’ in the Three Lions’ squad.

He told ITV Sport: “I know he’s not playing, but for Phil Foden not to start for England, it’s a real shame.

“He’s a massive talent. I think he’s our best player and our best talent by a mile in this country. He should be starting in that team really.”;
