World Cup: Vincent Kompany tipped to replace Martinez as Belgium manager after exit

Published on December 01, 2022 at 09:00 PM

Manchester United icon, Jaap Stam, has tipped the head coach of Burnley, Vincent Kompany, to replace Roberto Martinez as Belgium manager following their early exit from the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Belgium needed to defeat Croatia in their final Group F tie on Thursday evening in order to make it to the round of 16 stages.

But they drew 0-0 against Croatia, with Romelu Lukaku missing many great opportunities to win the match for Belgium.

Belgium had defeated Canada and lost against Morocco in their first two group matches.

However, Stam believes that the Belgium FA should look no further than Kompany, a former national team captain and Manchester City legend.

“Eventually, I can see Vincent Kompany becoming Belgium’s manager because he has been doing well,”; Stam told Football Betting.

“He has gone into management the right way because you need to learn at different levels and work with different players to eventually manage the national team.

“Roberto Martinez is a very good manager, he has a philosophy and knows how he wants to play football.

“On paper, they [current Belgium team] have an interesting team, but on the pitch, they are not good enough.”;
