Yobe Govt dismisses insurgents’ ‘vacation notice’

Published on March 27, 2025 at 09:27 AM

The Yobe State Government has dismissed a rumor circulating that Boko Haram/ISWAP insurgents have issued a vacation notice to some communities in Gujba Local Government Area of the state.

Special Adviser on Security Matters to Yobe Governor, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (Rtd), made the clarification on Wednesday while briefing newsmen after a high level security meeting presided over by Governor Mai Mala Buni, where he reaffirmed government's dedication to ensuring a secure and peaceful environment for all.

He described the rumor as baseless and unfounded, reassuring citizens of its commitment to protecting lives and property.

“We haven't heard from any of the village heads or community leaders who were given an ultimatum by Boko Haram to vacate their areas.

“However, since last Saturday, we have embarked on confidence-building patrols along the general area of Katarko, Goniri, Gujba, Buni-Yadi, and surrounding communities,” he said.

According to him, the essence of the confidence-building patrols is to give the local communities confidence and assurance that they were not alone, as the government was with them.

The SA urged citizens to disregard the rumor and go about their daily activities without fear, as security agencies were working tirelessly to safeguard the state.

With the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations approaching, the government has assured residents of adequate security arrangements to ensure a peaceful and memorable festive period.
