Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, said the state has made adequate arrangement to receive, re-integrate and monitor 54 former Boko Haram fighters who are indigenes of the state after undergoing six months deradicalization programme.

This is to ensure that their activities bring peace to the society.

Buni represented by Deputy stated this on Thursday when he received the Coordinator of Operation Safe Corridor, Brigadier General Yusuf Ali, on a courtesy visit ahead of the upcoming graduation of 390 former fighters.

“I am confident that with our collective and sustained efforts, they would be salvaged from the wrong path through non-kinetic approach, they may repent and open a new positive chapter in their lives and become responsible citizen once again”, the Governor said.

According to him, reports indicated that a total 390 clients would graduate after undergoing 6 months de-radicalisation, rehabilitation and reintegration programme, in the first phase 54 of whom are indigene of Yobe state.

He assured of the state government's support to Operation Safe Corridor and all security operatives towards achieving the common goal of eliminating insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and other related crimes in the state and the country in general.

The Coordinator Operation Safe Corridor, Brigadier General Yusuf Ali said the programme is a specialised military initiative, designed to offer a pathway and hope for repentent insurgents and bandits to be reintegrated into society.

He solicited the support of the state government for the operation to achieve its mandate.
