Yobe residents slam YEDC over discrepancy in power supply

Published on April 01, 2025 at 01:51 PM

Electricity consumers under Band C in Yobe State have berated the management of Yola Electricity Distribution Company, YEDC, over an alleged discrepancy in electricity supply within the Damaturu metropolis.

One of the consumers, Malam Mohammed Umar Ali, who vented his frustration noted that customers under Band C are supposed to enjoy 12 hours of electricity supply daily but alleged that they barely receive 6 hours.

He wrote to the YEDC management that “We, the residents of Band C (Gashua Road, Damaturu), are compelled to voice our frustration over the persistent disrespect and injustices we are facing.

“Despite our patience for the sake of peace amidst the fragile situation in our town, your continued neglect of our needs is unacceptable.

“We were promised 12 hours of electricity, yet we are barely receiving 6 hours. This discrepancy is not what we agreed upon, and we feel deceived and disrespected”.

Ali demanded immediate action to rectify the situation.

Another consumer, Shuaibu Mohammed also added his voice saying that the persistent issue is uncalled for and should be addressed immediately.

“Indeed this should be looked into. The barely 6 hours that is being supplied to us has not only been untimely but with a low voltage that doesn't support Most of our needed appliances e.g. Refrigerators”, he said.

When contacted for comment, one of the YEDC's senior officials Sagir Madu said the Distribution Company is working to ensure that there is sufficient power supply to all customers.

“Please bear with us, things will get better. Rest assured that our management is working tirelessly, day and night, to ensure a steady and sufficient supply for our valued customers”, Madu said.
